For fair weather, the BPW with this approach usually comes in under 11 lbs / around 5 kg.

(Before 2002, "Ultralight" was under 12 lbs. So I'm Grandfathered.)

For shoulder-season hiking, the weight goes up as the night time temps drop into the teens.

This gear is for high altitude summer to 3-season mountain hiking. It provides for protective clothing in a wide variety of altitudes and weather conditions, reliable shelter from sporting Rocky Mountain weather, plus the options for a luxury item or two that actually get used if they are in the pack. All of the options listed shift with the weather forecast, the duration of the trip, the terrain, and my mood.

All weights listed from lightest to heaviest.
